Meet San Francisco Dermatologist: Dr. Carlson
Dr. Ekama Carlson MD, FAAD, FACMS is a renowned San Francisco dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. A Northern California native born in Davis, California, Dr. Carlson had the unique experience of growing up in a small university town in Nigeria, West Africa before eventually returning to the United States as a high school-aged teenager.
She completed her medical school education at the University of California, Davis, where she also pursued doctorate studies in biochemistry and molecular biology, with scientific research interests in cancer biology and tissue engineering.
Her residency training in dermatology was completed at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center. She ultimately returned to the San Francisco bay area and completed her fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Carlson has double board certifications in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, conferred by the American Board of Dermatology. As a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Carlson has extensive expertise in skin cancer, Mohs surgery, advanced reconstructive dermatologic surgery, dermatologic oncology (treatment of skin cancer), and procedural cosmetic dermatology. This combination of double board-certification, prestigious fellowship training and practice expertise, make her a highly sought-after specialist and leader in her field. She is a fellow of the American Board of Dermatology (AAD), the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons (ASDS), and the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS).
Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys nature, distance running, foods from just about every culture, language learning, decently good books, and quality time with her family, among many other things.
